Other Good Stuff
I didn’t get my hopes up for Venice since I heard how crowded and expensive it was, but I really enjoyed it. The city looks like nowhere else and was particularly decorative as I was there for the last few days of carnevale.
Admittedly, I feel like I missed out on a lot of the festival, or at least it just wasn’t what I was expecting. I guess I thought there would be more of a street party atmosphere, like Mardi Gras, but from what I saw, things were pretty subdued and most of the events cost hundreds of euros to attend. While there were those in full costume, the vast majority of people weren’t even wearing a cheap mask, instead just wandering around snapping photos of the few that were dressed up. (And then of course, there the people dressed up as hobbits or with a Scream mask…I’m surprised I didn’t see any zombies milling around.) Kind of strange.
While it wasn’t quite the scene I imagined, the costumes and masks I did catch were definitely ones that you don’t see anywhere else.
