I’ve been back in the U.S. for a couple weeks now and everyone is asking me how it feels. In no particular order, this is what I think after two weeks in America:
That’s a whole lot of pasta and cheese…I’ll take it!
Clean and quiet…
Love this post! Whenever I get back to the states from being abroad for a while I feel like Alice in Wonderland because everything is so big.
Good comparison :)
Lol! Food portions are even bigger! Sooo true!
I didn’t realize it so much when I came home last year, but this year I just find them ridiculous.
So true! I agree with all of these, especially the hummus one!
I don’t know how I did it…
Welcome home my new friend. Reverse culture shock is tough.
Thank you :)
It’s crazy how much all these little things stick out when you get home from being away for so long!
The big stuff all seems the same, but you have a different perspective on the little day to day stuff
Haha I have the same thing every time I go back! I brought my English boyfriend to the US for his first time this year and he was shocked!
We’re moving back to the States this fall after two years in Shanghai. Some things I’m looking forward to (cheese, Mexican food, clean air and water) and other things I’m not (gigantic portion sizes, needing a car, lack of dumplings). I can’t wait to see what other things stand out as different, strange or wonderful after such a long time away!
The really weird thing is how quickly you get used to it all again.
Haha, I think we’ll definitely enjoy the large portion sizes after the bird-sized meals in Asia. Not so keen on the cold, but after dragging my hubs through the tropics it’ll be his turn to enjoy the weather :)
It is nice not to be sweating all the time…
Ahh – the infamous reverse culture shock! Good to hear that you are also finding lots of things to enjoy about being back :)
Thanks for reading!
Oh man, those first few weeks back are always nuts. I forget how overwhelming things here can be. When I first moved back, grocery stores were what killed me. They’re HUGE!
Anyways, found your blog through #girlstravel and wanted to stop by and say hi.
I know what you mean about the grocery stores…I’ve been shocked by how big parking lots and car washes (random, I know) are…what a waste of space! Thanks for reading :)
