The ‘mountain’ range in Chiang Mai is the largest in Thailand. However it seems more like a set of large hills to me since I grew up seeing Mount Rainier everyday. (Actually, that’s a lie. It’s often so cloudy around Seattle that you don’t see anything…you know it’s there though!)
Simply seeing the mountain on the horizon though, you don’t fully realize just how massive it is. With a 14,411 feet (4,392 meters) summit elevation, Mount Rainier is the largest mountain in the contiguous United States. (Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai, on the other hand, is a mere 5,499 feet/1,676 meters).
I haven’t actually visited Mount Rainier in ages, so recently made a day trip to the active volcano (yep – it’s alive) and soaked up the precious Pacific Northwest sunshine and being a tourist in my own town. What parts of your home landscape do you miss when you’re away for a while?
