Other Good Stuff
Of course, one of my favorite things about traveling is eating new foods in different places. Types of food, meal preparations and dining traditions can really open up a culture and give you a glimpse of what its like or why it is the way it is. These are some of the eating + traveling books I’ve read lately…what can you add to the list?
Chef and author, Jen Lin-Liu, noticed a connection between the pasta dishes she ate in Italy with the noodle dishes she cooked in China and wanted to know how they were related. To find out she traveled the Silk Road from Beijing to Rome eating, learning and spotting the connections along the way in On the Noodle Road.
What would your perfect meal be? In A Cook’s Tour Anthony Bourdain traveled through Cambodia, Vietnam, Spain, Mexico, Portugal and more to find what made the ‘perfect meal’…and tasted some interesting things along the way.
If you haven’t read this yet, you have to know – the book, Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes, is nothing like the movie…in a good way. The love story is with creating a life in Tuscany – the people, the place and the food – not one of a divorcee trying to find herself. And there are recipes. Anyone interested in Italy or Italian food will find things to enjoy, and savor, in this book.
