Have you ever completely rearranged your travel plans or made a trip that was entirely impractical?
While traveling through India (at a breakneck speed), my travel partner and I decided we just MUST get down to Kerala at the southern tip of the country to rent a houseboat and cruise the backwaters. “Kerala backwaters, Kerala backwaters…”, had been going through our heads since the beginning. It was said to be cooler down there, lush, and you could hire a boat (with driver and cook) for around $120.
Our budget was running low, we only had about five days left before flying out, and we were in Mumbai – more than 900 miles (1500 km) away. We would need to get down and back to Mumbai, leaving us with only a day and a half (counting the two 30-hour train rides we would need to take) in the south. Ridiculous.
We did it. It was my birthday, we wanted to go and see another part of the country and craved some R&R after a month of always being on the go (and trying to stay away from monkeys).
And it was worth it.
What crazy, impractical, last-minute, out of the way travel plans have you concocted before?
